Do sneaker sites detect ISP proxies?

Sometimes, and it depends on the site. What detection actually checks, which sites are hardest, and how to test a proxy before a drop rather than during one.

This is the question that stops most people buying, and the honest answer is: sometimes, and it depends entirely on the site. Anyone who tells you their proxies are undetectable is either lying or does not understand the question.

What "detection" actually means

Sites do not have a single "is this a proxy" check. They run several, and different sites weight them differently.

ASN lookup. Every IP belongs to an autonomous system โ€” a network operator. A lookup tells the site whether the IP belongs to Amazon Web Services, or to AT&T Broadband. This is the check ISP proxies are built to pass, and they pass it, because the IP genuinely does belong to a consumer carrier.

IP reputation databases. Services like IPQualityScore, MaxMind and Scamalytics score IPs on past abuse. This is where cheap proxies fail โ€” not because of what the IP is, but because of what previous users did with it.

Behavioural signals. Request timing, mouse movement, how fast you complete checkout. No proxy helps here. If your bot fills a form in 40 milliseconds, the IP is irrelevant.

Browser fingerprinting. Canvas rendering, fonts, screen size, WebGL. Ten "different" customers with identical fingerprints are obviously one person, whatever their IPs say.

Rate and pattern. Twenty accounts from twenty clean IPs, all checking out within the same second, is a pattern no IP quality solves.

So do they get detected?

On the ASN check: no. A genuine AT&T or T-Mobile ISP proxy resolves to a consumer carrier and passes as residential. That is what you are paying for.

On reputation: it depends on the subnet. This is the real variable. A fresh subnet that has not been used by hundreds of previous botters scores clean. A cheap, heavily reused one may already be flagged at the exact sites you care about โ€” and you will not find out until the drop.

On behaviour and fingerprinting: proxies do not help at all. If your setup gets caught, the IP is frequently not the reason. People blame proxies for failures caused by their bot's timing or an unconvincing browser profile.

Which sites are hardest

Roughly, from most to least forgiving:

  • Most retail and general e-commerce โ€” ASN and reputation checks. ISP proxies work well.
  • Sneaker retailers โ€” add behavioural analysis and per-account limits. ISP works, but your setup matters as much as your IPs.
  • Sites behind aggressive bot management โ€” some fingerprint far more heavily and block datacentre ranges outright, including some ISP ranges. Residential is the fallback here.
  • Ticketing and a handful of high-value drops โ€” assume everything is inspected, and expect no proxy type to be sufficient on its own.

How to know before you spend

Do not take anyone's word for it, including ours.

1. Get one IP first. Any provider unwilling to sell you a small quantity or give you a test IP is telling you something.

2. Check its reputation. Run it through Scamalytics and IPQualityScore. Low score, no proxy or VPN flags.

3. Load your target site through it. Not the homepage โ€” the product page and the cart. A blocked IP usually reveals itself immediately.

4. Do this the day before, not during the drop. Discovering half your proxies are blocked at release is entirely avoidable, and completely unrecoverable.

The honest summary

ISP proxies solve the IP-identity problem well. They do not solve behaviour, fingerprinting, or a bot that looks like a bot.

If your tasks fail with clean ISP proxies on a site that is not aggressively fingerprinting, the proxies are usually not the problem. If they fail on a site known for heavy bot management, no proxy type would have been enough on its own.

Buy a small number, test them on your actual target, and scale what works. That is the only method that survives contact with a real drop.
